Topics overview
Autumn Term : War and Peace
In the Autumn, we enjoy reading 'My Secret War Diary' by Marcia Williams as our whole class focus text. Mixing drama with video footage, a visit to Crawley Museum, interviewing WWII evacuees, and even a cinema visit, the children become engrossed in WWII; producing a wide variety of writing, art, geography and IT presentations.
Spring Term: Into the Wild
Our focus text this term is 'The Wolf Wilder' by Katherine Rundell. Children enjoy creating their own adventure stories based on our main text, as well as become experts themselves in creating their own non-fiction pieces on wolves and different climates around our world.
Summer Term: Crime and Punishment
We end the year reading the phenomenal book 'Holes' by Louis Sachar. The children enjoy dramatising their own crime scenes, writing police reports and even designing their own holiday destinations in the hope to persuade new holiday makers bookings!
In the Summer term the children also take part in three huge projects. These allow for true collaboration, drawing upon everyone's knowledge and skills:
- Our end of year leavers production
- Our end of year leavers movie
- Taking part in a whole school project entitled 'Interesting Ifield', where we conduct a study of the local area, presenting our historical and geographical findings through art, DT and computing.
