General Information for Year 1 Parents
Year 1 children have access to learning both inside and outside the classroom, with a shared enclosed outdoor learning space, accessed directly from both classrooms. There is also a dedicated reading space and role play area in the indoor shared area directly next to the classrooms.
Each classroom has a reading area, construction zone, writing table as well as a range of other resources. The children are therefore able to benefit from a wide-ranging and creative curriculum, building on the skills gained during the Foundation stage while adapting to more formal styles of learning. In this way we are able to cater for the needs of all Year 1 children.
P.E
The children participate in P.E. on Tuesday and Thursday. The correct P.E. uniform can be found on 'Our School Uniform' webpage. Click here to be taken to the School Uniform page.
The Curriculum for the school can be found here.
During the Covid-19 situation, we have stated that children should come to school in their P.E. kits on the days that they have P.E.

Special days and school trips
During the Autumn term we have a special day linked to our Cinderella text and a celebration party for the return of Traction Man, but these are kept a surprise for the children!
In the Spring term we walk to the local bus stop as part of our learning around the story of Naughty Bus.
Our school trip that takes place at the start of the Summer term, will take us to Drusillas and learn about the Maasai people and animals, linking with our geography and science themes

Phonics Screening
In June, all Year 1 children in the country participate in a phonics screening assessment. The Phonics Screening Check is meant to show how well your child can use the phonics skills they've learned up to the end of Year 1, and to identify students who need extra phonics help. The Department for Education defines the checks as “short, light-touch assessments” that take about four to nine minutes to complete.
